Overview

Educator Scholarship

Purpose: Support District 65 educators in obtaining additional education (licensures, endorsements) that builds greater capacity to serve District 65 students, with emphasis on serving historically marginalized students and educators.

Geographic Scope: Evanston/Skokie District 65 (IL, US)

Award Details:

  • Covers 50% of tuition for accepted programs

  • Applicants responsible for remaining 50% and additional fees

  • Support covers up to two years of tuition

  • Up to two classes per semester/quarter

  • Additional tuition requests must be submitted two months before class start
  • Tuition Payment:

  • Foundation 65 pays directly to college/university

  • Timely submission of tuition bills required to ensure payment
  • Eligible Programs:

  • Licensures and endorsements relevant to District 65 work

  • NOT supporting: undergraduate, masters, PhD programs, professional development, conferences

  • Must be from non-profit institution approved for state licensure
  • Eligibility Criteria:

  • Currently employed by District 65 and in good standing

  • Admitted to the program at college/university (or final acceptance contingent on admission)

  • Endorsement from supervisor or District 65 HR that education serves school/District interests

  • Demonstrated financial need (considers income, assets, home ownership, debt)

  • Clear commitment to serving students of color within District 65

  • Preference given to educators with historically marginalized identities and demonstrated experience serving BIPOC students
  • Recipient Requirements:

  • Maintain 3.0 GPA in program

  • Remain in good standing as District 65 employee

  • Commit to working within District 65 for at least 3 years after completing program

  • Loans forgiven after 3 years of continuous employment; otherwise must repay with interest
  • Application Timeline: Applications due May 1 for fall term payment

    Educator Scholarship Application Process

    1. Reach out to Foundation 65 to receive updates and application

    2. Application Deadline: May 1 (for fall term payment)

    3. Required Elements:
    - Currently employed by District 65 and in good standing
    - Admitted to the program at college/university
    - Endorsement from supervisor or District 65 HR
    - Demonstrated financial need (considers current family income, assets, home ownership, debt)
    - Clear and demonstrated commitment to serving students of color within District 65

    4. Interview:
    - Foundation 65 reserves the right to interview applicants

    5. Notification & Agreement:
    - If accepted, Foundation 65 provides loan directly to institution
    - Loan covers 50% of tuition
    - Loan agreement outlines terms for continuing payment across multiple terms
    - Educators do not need to reapply for every term if admitted to multi-term program

    6. Post-Completion Commitment:
    - Applicant commits to remaining in District 65 for at least 3 years after program completion
    - Loans forgiven at completion of 3-year employment term
