Overview

DVMC's ACVS Surgery Summit Education Grant

Overview: The American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), with funding provided by the ACVS Foundation, is partnering with the Developing Veterinary Medicine Careers (DVMC) to offer Resident Education Travel Grants to the 2026 ACVS Surgery Summit.

Purpose: This grant supports both ACVS's strategic goal of improving residents' access to continuing education opportunities and DVMC's aim to increase representation from historically underrepresented communities in the veterinary profession.

Award Details:

  • Number of Awards: 5 grants

  • Complimentary registration to the 2026 ACVS Surgery Summit

  • Domestic airfare (economy coach ticket)

  • Hotel accommodations

  • Rideshare reimbursement to/from airport (submission of receipts required after the Summit)

  • Meal reimbursement for meals during travel and meals not provided by ACVS (within College reimbursement limits)

  • Event: 2026 ACVS Surgery Summit

  • Location: Charlotte, NC

  • Description: The largest gathering of the ACVS community, offering valuable learning and networking opportunities for residents
  • Eligibility:

  • Target Audience: Residents (ACVS) currently training at all ACVS-registered veterinary surgery training programs

  • Priority: Residents from historically underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Status: Upcoming - applications will open May 1, 2026

    Application Process

    Application Period: May 1 - June 1, 2026

    Required Materials:

    1. Personal Statement (maximum 500 words)
    - Address the following prompt: "Explain your journey towards becoming a veterinary surgery resident. Focus on how attending the Surgery Summit aligns with your goals and how specific experiences and milestones have shaped your path. Discuss how diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) have played a role in your career path and if you personally faced any challenges due to underrepresentation."
    - Word limit: 500 words

    2. Letter of Support (one page)
    - Must be from a mentor or supervisor who is a board-certified ACVS Diplomate

  • Residents must be currently training at ACVS-registered veterinary surgery training programs

  • Reimbursement for rideshare and meals requires submission of receipts after the Summit
