National Indian Health Board
The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1972 and headquartered in Washington, DC. NIHB serves as the unified voice of 574+ Federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes, advocating for health equity and strengthening healthcare systems across Indian Country. The organization represents both Tribal governments that operate their own health care delivery systems through contracting and compacting, as well as those receiving health care directly from the Indian Health Service (IHS).

Mission Statement: Established by the Tribes to advocate as the united voice of federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes, NIHB seeks to reinforce Tribal sovereignty, strengthen Tribal health systems, secure resources, and build capacity to achieve the highest level of health and well-being for our People.

NIHB concentrates on five key pillars:
Body, Mind, & Spirit — A holistic approach addressing chronic and infectious diseases, emotional resilience, and healing trauma through culturally grounded and traditional practices. Specific topics include substance abuse, opioid crisis, injury and violence prevention, suicide prevention, behavioral health, HIV, cancer, diabetes, women's health, oral health, and infectious disease.
Tribal Public Health Capacity and Infrastructure — Bolstering public health infrastructure and services within Indian Country through capacity building and technical assistance to tribes and tribal organizations.
Environmental Health — Addressing health challenges related to environmental factors.
Government Relations — Engaging in nation-to-nation relations and federal advocacy.
Health Equity — Ensuring equitable health outcomes across Native communities.
