Norman Wolgin passed away on February 12, 2023, at the age of 95. He was born in Philadelphia in 1927 to Israel and Rose Basin Wolgin and served in the US Army during World War II.

Beyond his philanthropic work, Norman Wolgin was a prominent real estate developer and businessman. He worked in the family business, Atlas Credit Corporation, which financed automobiles. He became the first Volkswagen dealer in Pennsylvania in 1949. By 1962, Atlas Credit had evolved into a real estate-oriented finance and mortgage company, with Wolgin serving as Executive Vice President. In 1969, he formed Waverly Management, which built and managed over 1,100 units of multifamily housing in the Philadelphia area. In 1981, Norman and Marian embarked on a four-year redevelopment and restoration of the historic Sagamore hotel in Bolton Landing, New York, transforming it into a 350-room resort and conference center.
