Mission & Focus Areas
EdTrust is committed to advancing policies and practices to dismantle the racial and economic barriers embedded in the American education system. The organization promotes high academic achievement for all students at all levels from pre-kindergarten through college, with particular focus on students from low-income backgrounds and students of color, including Black, Latino, and American Indian students.
The organization operates through several core program areas:
P-12 Policy, Research & Practice: EdTrust works alongside policymakers, advocates, and educators to close opportunity gaps that separate students of color and students from low-income backgrounds from their White, more affluent peers. The organization uses data and research to eliminate injustices and support educators in creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environments. This includes work on educator workforce development and culturally rich, academically rigorous curricula.
Higher Education Policy & Research: EdTrust ensures that Black and Latino students and students from low-income backgrounds have greater access to colleges and universities, and that those institutions make college affordable, welcoming, and enroll diverse students and faculty.
Federal Advocacy: EdTrust brings together advocates and national thought partners with congressional staff to advance education equity at the federal level.
State-Based Advocacy: EdTrust operates four state offices—EdTrust-Midwest, EdTrust-New York, EdTrust-West, and EdTrust-Tennessee—that advocate for educational justice and high academic achievement in their respective states.
