Bruce H. Rosen (1935–2021) was the foundation's namesake. A Detroit native, he earned a bachelor of business degree from Wayne State University in 1957. He served as chairman of the board of Supreme Distributors Company, one of the largest national distributors of brand-name health and beauty care products. In 1987, he established Sovereign Sales Inc., a national distributor of fine fragrances and cosmetics. He was also an owner of Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle beginning in 1980.

Bruce and his wife, Rosalie, made a lifelong commitment to community betterment. Bruce received the Spirit of Detroit Award in recognition of his philanthropic work.
