Ann Mactier – Co-founder and philanthropic leader

Ann Mactier was born in Ravenna, Nebraska in 1922 and moved to Omaha in 1930. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University (1944) and earned both a Bachelor of Arts (1963) and Master's degree in English (1969) from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Her professional background includes serving as Coordinator in the UNO College of Fine Arts beginning in 1975, where she brought the England Royal Shakespeare Company to Nebraska for a six-week residency. She served on the Omaha Public School Board for 15 years (1983–1998) and on the State Board of Education for 11 years (1996–2007). In 2005, she received an Honorary Doctorate of Education.

Ann Mactier has been deeply involved with Phoenix Academy as a founding board member and financial contributor. She is noted as an active supporter of opera and fine arts in the Omaha area.

Allan Mactier – Co-founder

Allan Mactier married Ann in 1944. Together they built Ponca Hills Farm in 1964 and founded the first Nebraska Chapter of the United States Pony Club in 1966, hosting the National Pony Club Rally at their farm in 1971. The couple established an endowment at UNO to support local teacher training in the Spalding method.
