Mission & Focus Areas

CFEF advances student achievement in Florida through its alliance of local education foundations by increasing their capacity and resources in partnership with key stakeholders. The organization describes itself as "a proven, trusted, and nonpartisan voice in Florida's K-12 education landscape."

Primary Program Areas:

Resiliency Through The Community Program: In partnership with the Florida Department of Education, CFEF built student resiliency through local education foundation programs focused on 11 skills and characteristics to help students navigate life's challenges. The program concluded in 2024 after leveraging funds to engage 838,000 students, 34,150 teachers, and 350 community organizations in localized programs. These initiatives improved mental health, reduced chronic absenteeism (providing students more than 900 days of instruction), reduced suicidal ideation, built hope through peer listening programs, and increased career pathways for rural counties. The program emphasized building grit, gratitude, responsibility, and self-management. In fiscal year 2023-2024, $14,829,319 was expended from a total $21.3 million grant from the Florida Department of Education.

College & Career Pathways and Scholarships: Through 104 separate partnerships with local education foundations, CFEF builds pathways to successful life after high school through career development initiatives.

Teacher Workforce Strengthening: Local education foundations across Florida are partnering with school districts to explore strategic staffing solutions that strengthen the teacher workforce, improve teacher satisfaction, and enhance student learning through innovative approaches including technology integration, AI frameworks, and mentoring systems.

School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program: CFEF oversees the nation's only legislative match for education foundation initiatives, leveraging state-appropriated grant dollars to provide a $1-for-$1 match to encourage private-sector investment and involvement for locally driven initiatives. This program has allocated over $81.8 million since 2001.

Grantmaking

CFEF administers multiple grant initiatives including corporate-sponsored programs from partners such as Florida Power & Light, Wells Fargo, and HCA Healthcare Foundation.
